Entry into India

The possibility of POSCO entering India received wide press coverage when the Korean President, Roh Moo-Hyun first visited Delhi in October 2004. The two countries agreed upon the need for closer trade ties and set a target of $10 billion in bilateral trade by 2008 (which stood at $4.1billion in 2005)...

The Deal Comes Through

Discussions between the Orissa government and POSCO continued during the 1st week of June. After a period of uncertainty, the state government announced that the MoU would be signed at Paradip on 22nd June 2005...

After the Deal

POSCO seemed to have walked away with a better deal with the Orissa Government when compared to the Tatas. POSCO's MoU included such terms as SEZ status, assistance from the State Government for iron ore reserves, better interface with the agencies for land and other infrastructure and longer validity of the MoU...

The Road Ahead

On 31st August it was announced that "POSCO-India Private Ltd"had been incorporated with the Registrar of Companies, Orissa, under the Companies Act 1956 as promised at the time of signing of the MoU...
